We had fish and chips, my husband for the first time. He was shocked at how huge the portions are. Amazing quality of fish! Great fries even. Stuffed afterward. And on top of that outstanding service, Shawn was incredible!
Finally they open up again for lunch. We always love their Haddock and chips. The batter is fluffy and crispy, not oily. Fish is thick and not fishy. Good amount of fries and crispy. Fresh coleslaw. Friendly waiter and fast service.
Been going for over 10 years. Delicious fish and chips - sometimes I switch chips to sweet potato fries. Their fish batter is very light and crispy Their chowder and steak and mushroom pie are also yummy. Staff is super friendly and service is quick. Tip: Check the times as they close earlier than most restaurants open for dinner. Monday to Wednesday- 11:00am to 7:00pm Thursday- 11:00am to 8:00 pm Friday- 11:00 am to 9:00pm Saturday- 11:00am to 7:30pm Sunday- Closed
I expected a small takeout counter but was pleasantly surprised to find that Thistle is a fully decorated dining place. The staff are all very polite and I appreciate that the music is on the quieter side. It's a great place to have lunch with friends and be able to chat in between bites. I also really liked that their tea is served in a pot rather than a single cup. I didn't need to ask for refills as often, and it could be shared with the whole table. Their battered haddock is delicious but I also recommend trying out the haggis! The prices may be a bit higher compared to other lunch spots, but it is very much worth the price.
The best fish and chips I have had yet, to date! I drove from Mississauga and I would 100% do it again. I'm craving it since I had it from 2 weeks ago; batter was perfect, fish was perfectly cooked. I didn't even need a fork, it flaked apart with my fingers! Portion was great, too. My service was also very friendly :) Already recommended
My wife and I discovered this place about 15 to 20 years ago. It is the most authentic fish and chip pub ever! Very spacious lots of seating and the service always pleasant and polite. The fish and chips are the very best ( I mean shocking the best )we travel over 1/2 hr to arrive there. And the desert comes on a tray “ what a treat “. Have never been disappointed. Excellent meal. Incredible. The Haddock and Chips came fresh and fried to perfection, announcing its presence on the table with a golden glow. The fries were an artful balance of crunchiness and softness. The fries were just rough and and natural enough to give the old style feeling, without too much messiness. The fish, incredibly succulent, was battered in a delectable, crunchy batter. I don't know if I can ever remember fish and chips being this good. The only thing I would like to change is a sliiightly more generous portion of fries and a larger plate to spread it around on. It was a little difficult to manage the pile on such a small plate.
